Kangeroos and cockatoos were in plague proportions in the Burkes Creek area of the Parish of Pearson (Also Pearson Public School area). So they hired a pro shooter and after shooting many birds, they seemed to have left the area , but there was still an abundance of other species of finches, wrens and diamond sparrows etc.
Now this man was pretty smart so he caught a joey and tired heaps of white rag to it. Then he let the Joey go into the mob of kangeroos, and not having much human contact these kangeroos panicked with fright at the sight of a Joey encased in lengths of rag and they bolted never to return to the area again.
